Design and support manufacture of body products for the transportation industry – primarily e-mobility applications. Responsible for part modelling, drawing creation with GD&T and assembly using CATIA V5 and Solidworks. Must understand Engineering direction and provide design concepts accordingly. Responsible for integrating safety, regulation, and function into the product design. Lead a successful production launch of the finalized product design.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. architect the prototype
2. develop CAD based on direction from Ford Industrial Designers
3. Champion product design, development, and documentation of automotive body from concept through manufacturing
4. Design, develop, and launch a product that meets all customer and internal requirements relative to performance, quality, regulatory, and profitability
5. Develop CAD models using Catia-V5
6. Define and validate tooling
7. Define and lead prototype and design validation processes
8. Follow general workflow for production parts release
9. Generate, maintain, and disseminate all product engineering documentation required for successful launch including PPAP, 3D Data, Drawings, BOM, DFMEA, DVP&R, PVP&R, Design Walks, Lessons Learned, other
10. Meet with customers and engineers to assess technical product needs
11. Determine and support enhanced system requirements
12. Identify and implement product improvements
13. Capable of starting from initial concept to create a product design that meets customer expectations and the principles of Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly
Support new product launch and product changes by leading periodic status review meetings
Generate and lead technical reviews, open issues, and risk mitigation strategy with stake holders
14. Lead resolution of design-related launch/manufacturing issues by developing appropriate product modification
15. Actively share learning and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Basic Qualifications / Requirements:
- BSME or Equivalent
- Ten (10) years’ experience (minimum) in the automotive industry - specifically in component design
- Strong background of GD&T
- Tool design and build experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability and excellent analytical problem-solving skills
- Experience in full cycle product development and launch - from concept to start of production
- Product & component design, definition and data release (3D & 2D)
- Proficient in CAE simulation applications
- Proficient in CATIA5, Solidworks, product drawing requirements including GD&T
- Proficient in creation of eBOM, and document management systems
- Work within hardware design/build project budgets.
- Work as part of an execution team
- Assume lead design engineer role on assigned projects
- Maintain and track personal workload
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Willing to work occasional overtime when required to meet special deadlines in response to customer requirements
