We are currently seeking an OBD Calibration Engineer to spearhead the development, validation, and certification of On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) systems for cutting-edge powertrains. In this role, you will ensure regulatory compliance while driving performance optimization for internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles. The ideal candidate is an expert in OBD regulations and calibration with proven leadership experience to guide projects from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- OBD System Leadership: Lead the design, development, and calibration of OBD systems for new and existing powertrain technologies (including hybrid and electric).
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Oversee system integration and collaborate with diverse teams—engineering, testing, and manufacturing—to ensure optimal OBD performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to EPA, CARB, and global emissions standards through robust validation and documentation processes.
- Root Cause Analysis: Identify diagnostic-related issues, conduct thorough investigations, and provide solutions to meet both functional safety and emissions requirements.
- Testing & Validation: Plan and lead vehicle testing under various environmental conditions to validate OBD system functionality and performance.
- Mentorship & Training: Guide junior engineers in OBD best practices, troubleshooting, and optimizing calibration strategies.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with customers, regulatory bodies, and certification agencies for technical discussions, compliance updates, and reporting.
- Advanced Diagnostics: Develop and implement innovative diagnostic algorithms and strategies to meet certification readiness and enhance vehicle durability.
- Project Management: Drive efficient project execution, ensuring milestones are met and resources are effectively utilized.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- OBD Expertise: In-depth knowledge of OBD-II protocols, emissions regulations (EPA, CARB), and diagnostic algorithms.
- Calibration Tools: Proficient with ETAS INCA, MATLAB, Simulink, and CAN-based diagnostic systems.
- Leadership Experience: Proven record of leading technical teams and managing cross-functional automotive projects.
- Powertrain Knowledge: Familiarity with internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicle platforms.
- Adaptability: Strong ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to articulate complex information to varied audiences.
